MyGovID is an authentication app provided by the official Australian government website.
Australians can now create a myGovID digital identity using Android and Apple iOS devices. Your myGovID is a digital identity certificate recognised by the Australian Government to access government services online.
Its developers, the Australian Taxation Office and Digital Transformation Authority, say both individuals and businesses will be able to unlock the online service after passing verification.

The WA government has launched a mobile app, SurviceWA, for citizens to check-in to businesses and show their Covid vaccine certificates. And the ServiceWA app uses the federal government's myGovID credential as a digital identity. Users who didn’t create a myGovID need to spend at least 30 minutes to fill out the identification requirements.
October 18,2021 Identity strength and password visibility
The ATO has made new changes to make it easier for users to gain strong identity strength in the myGovID application by reducing the number of files that need to be verified from three to two.
When setting a password, an option for password visibility appears.
It improves the stability of the entire app and brings you better user experience.
Fixed some bugs reported by users.
Features
- Verification: Verify the user's identity through biometric technology such as fingerprint or facial recognition.
- High security: myGovID has been accredited by Australia's Trusted Digital Identity Framework, which tightly controls how your identity data is collected, stored and used. It uses encryption and security features in the device, such as fingerprints, faces and passwords.
- Business Verification method: If you are the principal organisation practising, you can use myGovID to log into the Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) website and link your myGovID to your Practising Australian Business Number (ABN).
- Version requirements: Only Android 7 (Nougat) or later (Oreo, Pie) users can use this app. If you are still using older Versions of Google's operating system, you may be rejected.
- Usage requirements: You need to be at least 15 years old to set myGovID. And your myGovID is unique to you -- do not share it with others.
How do I set myGovID?
First, download the myGovID app. Next, enter your details - including your full name, date of birth and a personal email address that only you have access to. Finally, verify your identity to increase the strength of your identity. You can choose to authenticate with your id or your photo.
Why can't I access my myGov account?
If you are unable to log in because you cannot access the myGov security code, you will need to create a new myGov account and link to the ATO again. This can happen if you change your phone number. Went overseas and can no longer access your Australian mobile number.
What files does myGovID need?
Use the following links for guidance on verifying your identity.
Passport (not more than 3 years old)
Verify your photos.
Driving Licence (including Learner's Permit)
Birth certificate.
Visa (using your foreign passport)
The membership card.
Citizen card.
What should I do if I encounter caton delay?
If you experience delays in authenticating your id, please leave your app open for up to 15 minutes while authenticating your id. If the app times out, forcibly log out and wait 20 minutes to log in again. If successful, the file will no longer appear in the list of verifiable files.
