El CoCo helps you to choose and buy the right food products, giving you simplified and reliable information about their real nutritional value.
Our app is suitable for those who are concerned about their health and want to take care of their daily diet. It allows you to consult all the nutritional information of different food products (such as sugar, fat, salt, proteins, etc) as well as its energy value (calories).
Principally based on two notation systems that are recognized by the scientific community: Nutri-score * and NOVA **, El CoCo allows you to consciously choose and not be manipulated by the marketing techniques of brands and manufacturers.
SCAN BAR CODES
With El CoCo, you can scan the bar codes of food products, at home or in the supermarket while you are shopping. Each product has its own factsheet in which we break down the positive or negative aspects of the product for your health.
HISTORY OF SCANNED PRODUCTS
You can also access the history of the products you have consulted. That way, you can easily compare products and choose the healthiest ones.
A COLLABORATIVE APP
El CoCo is a collaborative app. We need your help to improve it. If a product is not yet available in the app, you can send us photos of it and we will create it. A few days later it will be listed and you can find out its nutritional value.
THE CONSCIOUS CONSUMER
The name El CoCo comes from "Conscious Consumer”. Through this project we want to help consumers buy healthier food products and easily detect any products that are wrongly presented by brand marketing as healthy.
*The Nutri-score
This is a method of labelling, with the objective of helping the consumer buy more consciously. It measures the nutritional quality of a product based on the nutrients it contains and visually simplifies labelling with a color coded system (from red to amber to green).
A – Excellent nutritional quality
B – Good nutritional quality
C – Acceptable nutritional quality
D – Poor nutritional quality
E – Very poor nutritional quality
Created in England and completed by French scientists, the Nutri-Score has become one of the most efficient nutrition labelling systems and the one that best helps consumers to choose products of good nutritional quality.
**NOVA
Created by Brazilian scientists, the NOVA classification system is used by the WHO (World Health Organization) and the FAO (United Nations Organization for Food) as a basis for conducting various studies.
The NOVA classification system completes the Nutri-score by classifying the products into 4 large groups depending on their degree of processing and not on their nutritional quality. Not all processed nutrients are bad for health, but there are serious doubts about the harmful effects of so-called ultra-processed products on health. Some studies have even begun to relate them to the increase of cancer.
