How to use Protect Scotland
- Use Bluetooth to alert users if they had close contact with people tested positive
- Those who tested positive will receive a contact tracer via text, phone, or email
- They will be asked if they are willing to use the app and its upload function to alert close contacts anonymously.
- If they agree, a unique code will be sent to unlock the upload function on the app.
- Their positive test results will create an anonymous database
- Users can check this database regularly to see if they have been in contact with an infected person
- Users are urged to self-isolate for 14 days if a match is found
Is it confidential?
- YES. Absolute ZERO personal information will be exchanged between users.
- Using the anonymous codes, or “keys”, the app might include Bluetooth signal strength for determining proximity, but it CANNOT be used to recognize you or reveal any location and identity.
Test and Protect?
- Tying in with Test and Protect, this app will use a manually-operated method for controlling the spread of diseases.
- A person who is infected will be interviewed over the phone to identify close contacts: who have been within 2m of for a period of 15 minutes or more.
Effectiveness?
- According to a study done by Oxford University, even with an uptake of 15%, a tracing app can drive down infections by approximately 8% and deaths by about 6% with manual track and trace.
